The Ledger
A downloadable tool
A full room of NPCs, in seconds — with personalities, secrets, relationships to each other, and a direct line to your players' actual characters.
The short version
Walk into any scene needing three NPCs and a reason to remember them, and The Ledger builds the whole room: names, roles, personalities, what they want, what they're hiding, and how they know each other — not just a tavern's worth, but 13 different location types, from a market stall to a guard post to a cultist's shrine. Every NPC comes with just enough combat grit to survive a bar fight without a full stat block, and its Reflect PC feature can pull a trimmed piece of a player's real backstory from their character sheet straight onto an NPC card — the only generator in this space that connects to what your players actually built.
What you get
- 13 scene types, each with its own staff and visitor role lists — Tavern, Market, Temple, Guard Post, Bandit Camp, War Camp, Cultist Shrine, Roadside Camp, Farmstead, Mining/Logging Camp, Hunting Lodge, Druid Grove, and Hermit's Cabin
- NPCs with actual depth — personality, what they want, what they fear, what they dream about, a quirk, a secret, a patron deity or lack of one, something they're good at, something they're bad at
- Relationships between the NPCs in the same room — old friends, rivals, secret partners, a debt neither talks about — so a scene feels lived-in the moment you generate it, not assembled from a template
- Abstracted combat stats on every NPC — AC, HP, attack bonus, damage, and a weapon, tiered from Bystander to Dangerous, plus a morale behavior so you know whether they run, freeze, or fight dirty. Enough to adjudicate a scuffle on the fly, without pulling out a full monster stat block for a bar patron who took a swing
- Shared Secrets — tie several NPCs to one underlying mystery (a murder, a disappearance, a haunting, a conspiracy, a cursed object), each with their own angle on it: culprit, accomplice, witness, red herring. It hands you the raw material and gets out of the way — no forced reveal order, no plot the DM didn't write themself
- A campaign-wide Party Roster that persists across sessions, so your players' characters are always on hand for the next feature
- Reflect PC — import a player's exported character sheet and pull a trimmed excerpt of their backstory directly onto an NPC card. It's a snapshot, not a live link, so it won't quietly drift if the player edits their backstory later
- Settlement name generator and scene export, all stored locally — nothing leaves your computer unless you export it
Why this instead of rolling names off a table?
Random name generators get you a name. The Ledger gets you a person your table will actually remember three sessions later — a want, a secret, a reason to come back to them — and it does it as fast as you can click "Generate." The relationship and mystery systems mean a room of NPCs doesn't just individually make sense, it hangs together, without you having to invent the connective tissue yourself mid-session.
The pipeline (optional, but worth knowing about)
This is the one feature nothing else in this space has: Reflect PC reads a character exported from The Character Forge and lets you snapshot a piece of a player's own backstory onto an NPC — the innkeeper who actually knew their missing brother, the guard who recognizes their family name. Build the fight that finds them in The Skirmish Log, and run it on a scene in The Cartographer's Table. Each tool in The Loremaster's Kit works completely on its own, but this is where a player's own story starts showing up in the world the DM is building.
